Cassiterite is a mineral consisting of tin dioxide (SnO₂) and is the primary source of this metal. It is commonly found in hydrothermal veins and pegmatites associated with granites, and its name comes from the Greek word for "tin." Although common in its raw form, gem-quality material is rare, and it is used both for jewelry and in the production of tin for solders, pigments, and bronze.
