Cerussite is a mineral belonging to the carbonate group, primarily known as lead carbonate (PbCO₃), and an important lead ore. It forms from the oxidation of galena or other lead minerals on the Earth's surface. Although historically used in cosmetics and toxic paints ("lead white"), its use is prohibited in the West due to its high toxicity.
