Enstatite is a mineral belonging to the silicate class, inosilicate subclass, and specifically to the pyroxene group, orthopyroxene subgroup. It is a magnesium silicate, MgSiO3, with the magnesium partially replaced by small amounts (up to 12%) of Fe+2. It typically appears as fibrous, greenish-brown masses.
