Pharmacolite is a phosphate mineral; a less common synonym is arsenicite. It was discovered in 1800 in a mine near Wittichen in the Black Forest, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its name comes from the Greek word φάρμακον, meaning drug or medicine, referring to its content of the poisonous element arsenic.
