Galena is a sulfide mineral. It forms cubic, octahedral, and cubo-octahedral crystals. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 2.5 to 3. The arrangement of ions in the crystal is the same as in sodium chloride, sea salt. Its chemical formula is PbS₂.
