Howlite is a borate mineral discovered in 1868 and named after the Canadian chemist Henry How. It is characterized by its opaque white color with gray or black veins and is used in jewelry and crystal healing, where it is associated with calmness, serenity, and stress relief. Due to its porosity, it can be easily dyed to resemble other stones such as turquoise, lapis lazuli, or coral.
