Staurolite, belonging to the monoclinic crystal system and the silicate group, is a metamorphic mineral formed by regional metamorphism from garnets, micas, kyanite, and other minerals. Its name comes from the Greek words stauros (cross) and lithos (stone), referring to its natural cross-like shape.
