Chalcopyrite is called “copper pyrite”, a name that comes from the Greek “khalcos” meaning copper and “pyros” meaning fire or pyrite.
It belongs to the tetragonal system and is classified within the sulfides, with formula CuFeS2, being the largest copper ore since ancient times.
