Fluorite is a group III mineral (halides) that according to the Strunz classification, formed the elements calcium and fluorine.

Its structure belongs to the cubic system, and it appears with a cubic, octahedral, and rhombododecahedral habit.

Fluorite has physical thermoluminescence and fluorescence properties.

In industry, it is mainly used in iron and steel metallurgy. It is used as a source of fluorine and hydrofluoric acid, also in the glazing of ceramics and in the manufacture of optical glasses.
